FPV turns 5
Ford Performance Vehicles will turn 5 this year, and in order to celebrate the occasion, FPV has announced that it will build a special commemorative model, details for which will be revealed at the next Australian International Motor Show. FPV General Manager, Rod Barrett promised FPV fans the special edition model would be a great collector’s vehicle. FPV can trace its roots back to 1991, when Ford Australia began its collaboration with Tickford on the high-performance variants of its Falcon range. The partnership between Ford and Tickford saw the introduction of the successful Falcon XR6 and XR8 variants. Ford and Tickford later created the T-Series, a model line which sought to rival Holden Special Vehicles. The Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) title was created in 2002 and a restructured range was devised, headlined by a new GT Falcon. The FPV brand has blossomed in subsequent years. The first FPV came in the shape of a V8 FPV GT in 2003 and marked the beginning of a new era in performance motoring, with the company now best known for its turbocharged vehicles. “When we first launched FPV the brand revolved around the iconic status of the GT, now FPV has grown in only five short years to include two families - the GT and the F6, available in sedan, Ute and SUV models.” said Rod Barrett. “There has been much speculation about where FPV will head next, the GT HO is always on the radar, however, it would depend on whether a business case could be achieved and whether there would be market demand when we are ready to release it,” added Barrett. New changes following the motor show will include the addition of unique FPV badging with Mr Barrett saying owning an FPV is no longer about whether it’s a GT or an F6, but about serious performance. Stay tuned for more updates on the future of FPV and the commemorative FPV model soon to be released. Click here for more information on the current FPV range or call in to Brad Garlick Ford today!
